"Find out if you have the bacteria that causes ulcers and heartburn"

It is now thought that virtually all ulcers, apart from drug induced ones, are caused by an infection of the bacteria called Helicobacter pylori. In addition to ulcers this bacteria is also strongly linked with conditions ranging from indigestion to gastric cancer. A recent study has also shown that a Helicobacter pylori infection can delay the normal emptying of the stomach after a meal, leading to 'reflux' of acid. There is also evidence that it is linked with dyspepsia, which includes stomach and chest pain that is relieved by eating, only to reoccur at night when the stomach is empty. Problems associated with Helicobacter pylori bacteria can include duodenal and gastric ulcers, gastritis, indigestion, heartburn, excess acidity or dyspepsia and acid 'reflux'.

This breath test is a highly accurate and non-invasive diagnostic tool which detects the presence or absence of an active Helicobacter pylori infection in the stomach. Two breath samples at 30 minute intervals are provided following a fast of 4 hours. A kit is sent directly from the laboratory for the test to be performed at home.

So if you want to find out if you have an infection of the bacteria Helicobacter pylori and what to do about it if you have, then this would be a good test for you to take.

Samples should be returned to the laboratory by Next Day Delivery, Monday- Thursday only. Samples received outside of the suggested postage dates may be discarded and the patient asked to repeat the test.

Please Note: This test is only available by post in the UK. Please allow 5-6 weeks to receive your results.
